What is USB Type-C?
USB Type-C is a new connector for the USB standard that can support USB 3.1 and USB power delivery. USB Type-C is reversible, meaning you can plug it in upside down and it will still work. However, you cannot plug existing USB A or USB B connectors into a USB Type-C port, nor can you plug a USB Type-C connector into an older port.
Are all USB Type-C ports the same?
The USB Type-C ports can be very different.
PD(Power Delivery): Not all laptops support PD. If the host doesn’t support this function, you need the traditional power adapter to charge the host.
Video support: Depended on the host device manufacturer.(as they may continue to use DisplayPort, HDMI, or VGA ports.)
Data transfer: Data transfer speeds can vary from 480Mbps to 10Gbps.
What is USB 3.0 and USB 3.1?
USB 3.0 is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1. This connectivity standard offers speeds up to 5Gbps. USB 3.1 Gen 2 is a new standard for high-speed data transmission that more than doubles the theoretical bandwidth of the USB 3.0, going from 5 Gbps to 10 Gbps.
USB 3.1 connections are backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.
What is USB Power Delivery?
USB Power Delivery is a specification standard that allows devices to send or receive up to 100 watts of electricity over a single connection while transmitting data at the same time.
What is DisPlayport Alternate Mode?
DP Alt Mode standard will allow standard USB Type-C connectors and cables to carry native DisplayPort signals. Standard USB Type-C support 4 lanes (pairs) of differential signaling for USB Superspeed data, which are split up in a 2-up/2-down configuration for full duplex communication.
DP Alt Mode will be allowed to take over some of these lanes – one, two, or all four – and run DisplayPort signaling over them in place of USB Superspeed signal.
Will all USB Type-C cables and accessories work with USB Type-C laptop?
Not all USB Type-C ports will be set up to display video. Besides, some accessories will have USB Type-C ports for PD, and they can range between 5W and 100W. Generally, most laptops need closer to 36W or 60W for sufficient charging.
Will the USB‐A ports on my laptop work with USB‐C accessories if I use a USB‐A to USB‐C adapter?
USB‐A supports data transmission only, while USB‐C may support video, power delivery, and data. A USB‐C to USB‐A adapter will support data transfer, but the video and power delivery features of USB‐C will not work.
All laptop with USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 can connect with PD dock?
Yes, any computer that has USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3 (Type-C), will be able to connect with the PD docking station.
However, not all USB Type-C ports support full functionality of the USB Type-C specification. Ensure that your host USB Type-C ports support DP alt mode, as well as USB Power Delivery.
Apple MacBook 2015, 2016, MacBook Pro 2016, Google ChromeBook Pixel 2015, or Dell XPS 13 are fully compatible with PD docking station.
Will the PD dock Plug and Play?
For most systems the PD dock can plug and play.
Winows10 and Chrome OS, the PD dock are plug and play.
For Mac OS, PD dock users will need to install a Ethernet driver. The driver can be downloaded at.
If my USB Type-C device doesn’t support DisplayPort Alt Mode,Will the PD dock compatible with my device?
You will not be able to use the video ports(Display and/or HDMI). All other feature of the PD dock will be functional.
What is the PD(Power Delivery) specification of APS-DKPD01?
The APS-DKPD01 supports up to 60 watts of charging. Power requirements different based on the manufacturer of the USB Type-C device. Please check with your manufacturer to find your device’s needs.
Note: Sometimes when the other USB ports on the dock are connected, the PD to your laptop may be reduced to 36W.This will still be sufficient, in most cases, to keep the PC running without draining the charge on the battery.
How many monitors can the APS-DKPD01 support, and what is the maximum resolution?
Up to 2 monitors on Windows laptops. The Windows laptop must support DisplayPort V1.2 or above with compatible and updated graphic cards.
When running dual monitors, the resolution supported for each of the monitors is 1920×1080 @ 60Hz. For single display, the PD dock support 3840×2160 @ 30Hz.
For Mac and Chrome systems, they do not support dual monitors in extend mode. These devices only support 1 extend monitor, but a second monitor can be used to mirror your device screen.
Note: When connecting the video cables, it must be a direct HDMI to HDMI connection or DP to DP connection. Using a passive adapter will not allow the video signals to pass through properly and no video will be shown.
Can I use another Type-C cable on this PD dock?
Pioneer only guarantee the performance of the 18-inch Type-C cable that ships with the PD dock.
